Whenever driving anywhere make sure to plan well ahead of your departure and give yourself as much travel time as possible.

Get a feel for the car

When you first pickup your car hire at any location in Northern Ireland make sure that you get a feel for the car’s controls, adjust seats and mirrors that suit you best. Also, make sure the car hire vehicle has a full tank of petrol, all electronics in full working order and that it also has a spare wheel incase of a puncture.

Drive on the Left

Just like the U.K. and the Republic of Ireland traffic flows on the left hand side of the road. All roundabouts must be accessed by going clockwise and indictors must be use appropriately whenever existing a roundabout or changing lanes.

Do Not Speed

If caught speeding in Northern Ireland you could face a very high fine or even a later date court appearance. Roads in built up areas such as towns and cities are usually restricted to 30mph or 40mph for main roads, speed limits are very well sign posted in Northern Ireland so you should be aware of the restrictions.

  • Motorways (blue signs) – 70mph. (113 km/h)
  • Other roads (green & white signs) – 60mph. (97 km/h)
